AAUW Tech Trek Camp Adventure

Updated: Aug 6, 2023

During the summer of 2022, four 7th grade girls from the Tri-Cities went on a life-changing adventure to Tech Trek Camp – thanks in large part to donations from Soroptimist International of Three Rivers.

Stephanie Castaneda, Suri Delgado and Mayrin Pena from Highlands Middle School in Kennewick (back row from left to right) and Sharese North from Park Middle School in Kennewick (front row, left) began their trip at the Tri Cities Airport on July 17, bound for SeaTac Airport. Upon arrival, they were chauffeured to Pacific Lutheran College in Tacoma for a week of independent discovery focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Watch the video for an exciting overview of Tech Trek Camp.

“You know 7th grade girls had a good time if they are in tears over leaving their newly made friends,” says Judy Blair, Tech Trek Chair and Chaperone, “and these girls were awash in tears!”

Sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Tech Trek is unique among Washington’s STEM summer programs because:

  • It’s a residential camp held on a college or university campus.

  • It is one of the few programs designed for girls entering the 8th grade.

  • It provides full financial support to campers.

All of us at Si3R along with the members of the AAUW Tri-Cities couldn’t be more thrilled for all the campers at Tech Trek - and mostly for our Tri-Cities girls who represented!
