About Our Membership
What do members do?
Members of Soroptimist International are committed to serving the needs of women and children all over the world. As a member of SI3R, you have the opportunity to serve women, children, and local families in the Tri-Cities. At the most basic level, our members attend monthly meetings, during which we discuss our projects and programs to make collective decisions that we believe will have the most positive impact for the community we serve. In addition to conducting business, we often have featured speakers and presentations that are designed with our members' personal and professional interests in mind.
Outside of monthly meetings, our members volunteer to chair or serve on internal committees that keep our organization strong. For instance, SI3R has committees for our fundraisers, for our awards, and for our membership, for project proposals, and more. You have the opportunity to develop your leadership and organizational skills while working for causes that you believe in. You have the option to be as involved as you wish with unlimited potential for growth within the club. One of the best things about our club is that you can serve on the board or in other leadership positions very early into your membership, and you'll be supported and guided by seasoned Soroptimists along the way.
Should you not be able to attend all of the meetings, or serve in a leadership role, you can still participate. Throughout the year, we are involved in several community and mission-based projects that need volunteers. For instance, our SMART Girls program that we sponsor through the Boys and Girls Club always welcomes participation from Soroptimist members. Our fundraising efforts need various levels of involvement throughout their planning and execution periods to be successful and our partnership with SIPK to STOP Trafficking is a great way to to spread the word of what we do in a less formal environment. No matter what your level of commitment is to the club, we will welcome you because we share your passion to help women and girls be their best.
When are the meetings?
In-person club meetings, socials and events for the general SI3R membership are cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Select dates will be determined for general membership meetings via Zoom. Club members will receive a personal Evite message.
In normal years, club meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of most months and are open to guests. Both members and guests often meet at 5:30 p.m. for social time before the general business agenda, which begins at 6:00 p.m. Meetings last about two hours.
Do you do social events?
YES! We work hard, but we think it's important to be friends and cheerleaders to our members as well. We have several social events throughout the year where our members can mingle and let their hair down, so to speak. On every fifth Thursday during the year, our members come together for dinner or other fun activities. We also hold an annual celebration in November called Friendsgiving where we give thanks for our blessings and our friendships over yummy food and spirits. Other social activities pop up throughout the year and can be found on our club calendar and on our Facebook page.
